Milwaukee Ballet’s third international
choreographic competition returns to Milwaukee’s
historic Pabst Theater, March 26-29, 2009. Three talented choreographers
from around the world, handpicked by Artistic Director Michael Pink,
will showcase their chosen pieces for the chance to win the opportunity
to create an original work for Milwaukee Ballet.
Choreographic Competition
Three choreographers
will be chosen and required to create a 20 minute performance using eight
dancers within a maximum of 90 hours of rehearsal time. Transportation
to Milwaukee, hotel lodging, and a daily per diem will be provided.
- 1st
Prize: $3,000 plus commission to create a new piece for Milwaukee Ballet.
- 2nd
Prize: $2,000
- 3rd Prize: $1,000
- Audience Favorite Prize: $500
Requirements
- Entry is restricted to choreographers
currently working with a professional dance company.
- All competition works must be new creations.
- Music must be pre-recorded,
and used as public domain or with the composer’s
permission without fees.
- Costumes will be provided using existing stock ranging from contemporary
to classical. Works can be augmented with simply-constructed costumes.
Submissions
- Choreographers must submit
two excerpts of previous work no more than three years old and not
to exceed ten (10) minutes on a DVD or VHS tape.
- A written proposal and
biography in English must accompany the entry.
- Submitted VHS tapes and
DVDs will not be returned.
All submissions must be received no later
than Friday, October 31, 2008.
